Dr. Benjamin Park Birdwell, 33, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, from injuries resulting from a tragic automobile accident.
He was a clinical psychologist practicing in Cleveland.
He graduated from the Christian Academy of Knoxville and earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Tennessee. He then attended Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., where he received master’s degrees in both psychology and theology. Upon receiving his doctorate in clinical psychology from Fuller, he joined an established group practice in Cleveland. His counseling touched many lives.
He leaves his wife and the love of his life, Melissa McAmis Birdwell; four beautiful children: Jack Austin, 15, Samuel Park, 12, Abigail Susannah, 8, and Sadie Caroline, 3, all of Cleveland. He is survived by his parents, G.R. and Jewel Birdwell; brothers, Matt Birdwell and Zac Birdwell, all of Clinton; sister, Trina Harrell of Knoxville; and grandparents, Howard and Corene McMillen of Clinton. He was also the dearly loved son-in-law of Jack and Carol McAmis of Knoxville and Oak Ridge, and brother-in-law of Allison and Will Doyle of Knoxville.
The family will receive friends today, March 22, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge. The funeral will follow at 8 p.m. with John Stone officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
