HARRISON — Walker Valley was able to split their back-to-back games with Chattanooga Central with a win on Friday night.
Despite a 7-0 loss on Thursday, the Mustangs came back with a vengance and defeated the Pounders 9-7.
From the beginning the game seemed to be in Walker Valley’s favor with Central walking the first two Mustangs at bat. A hit from Josh Poole loaded the bases.
Drew Lyles then walked bringing in the first Mustangs’ run. Three more runs quickly followed before the final out ended the first inning.
The Pounders were able to get one run in the bottom of the first.
The second inning was scoreless for both teams, but the third provided Walker Valley with two more runs.
During the fourth inning Central was able to rack up six runs, taking the lead by one run.
The Mustangs responded with three more runs in the fifth while the Pounders were unable to retake the lead.
Elijah Haynie started out pitching for Walker Valley and in 85 pitches threw 38 strikes, including seven walks, and two strikeouts.
Chase Prince finished the game with one walk, three strikeouts three hits, and 33 of his 50 pitches being strikes.
John Simmons and Logan Melton led Walker Valley with RBIs, getting three and two respectively.
The Mustangs will travel to Ooltewah Monday to take on the Owls in some 5-AAA play.
