Earl “Squearly” Swallows, 62, a lifelong resident of Old Fort, passed away on Monday morning, April 1, 2013, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1950, a son of the late Luther “Tooty” and Margaret Swallows.

He was of the Baptist faith and a faithful member of Samples Memorial Baptist Church.

He was an avid sportsman and loved the great outdoors. He had many outstanding qualities, but will be most remembered for his love for Jesus, his family and his church. He was always eager to share his Christian faith with anyone he came in contact with. He was not only a wonderful dad and papaw to his immediate family, but was thought of by many as a “dad” and “papaw.”

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by three brothers: Gene, Cecil and Robert Swallows.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 44 years, Debbie Rowland Swallows; one daughter, Deborah Swallows Burgess and husband Lynn; one son, Greg Swallows and wife, Amy; seven grandchildren: Keisha Burgess Hamby and husband, Ricky, Dylan Burgess, Timothy Burgess, Derek Burgess, Thristian “Toot” Swallows, Brooke Park and Hunter Park; one sister, Mary Ann Sims (Thomas); six brothers: Ed Swallows (Ruth Ann), J.B Swallows, Junior “Windy” Swallows, Ray Swallows (Judy), Jack Swallows and Joby Swallows; and several other extended family members, church family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held tonight, April 3, 2013, at the Samples Memorial Baptist Church, 371 Samples Chapel Road S.E., Cleveland, TN 37323 with the Rev. Mark Cameron and the Rev. Lee Ingram officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church from 4 to the 8 p.m. service time today.

The committal service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. in the Samples Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery with Wade Gladson, Ray Wilson, Dewight Waldroup, Dylan Burgess, Hunter Park and Toot Swallows serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Burgess, Derek Burgess and deacons of Samples Memorial Baptist Church. The service will conclude with a white dove release.
