For the fourth time this season, sophomore Hallie Davis led off a game with a home run and each one proved to be a sign of good things to come for Walker Valley.

Davis added another solo shot in the fifth frame, bringing her season total to eight, as the Lady Mustangs remained unbeaten in District 5-AAA play with an 11-0 shellacking of county rival Bradley Central at Bob McKenzie Field Thursday evening.

Scoring in all but one at bat, Walker Valley (21-3, 9-0 District 5-AAA) had to play the full seven innings as the final two runs didn’t cross the plate until their final try.

The Lady Mustangs will now take the weekend off before facing back-to-back district games on Monday and Tuesday against Rhea County and McMinn County, both on their home field.

Bradley (5-11, 3-6) will play in the Choo Choo Classic this weekend in Ooltewah before hosting powerful Soddy-Daisy Monday and traveling to Polk County on Tuesday.

Davis started the 16-hit Lady Mustang barrage Thursday by driving the game’s second pitch over the left field fence. Along with making some good plays at second base throughout the contest, she finished the day 3-for-5 with a pair of dingers, four runs scored and a couple of RBIs.

Walker Valley picked up a pair of runs in the second frame when senior Bayleigh Morgan, sophomore Alicia Raymond, senior Brittany Nettles and freshman Jordyn Dodson stroked consecutive singles, the latter two of which drove in the scores.

After leaving a couple of runners on base without scoring in the third inning, the Lady Mustangs exploded for a four-run fourth frame, highlighted by a two-run homer by sophomore AJ Chancey and a single by senior Sidney Hooper that plated both Davis and junior Baylee Boen, who had doubled.

Davis’ second blast of the day accounted for the lone run in the top of the fifth, while a walk to Chancey to lead off the sixth led to another run without benefit of a hit. Chancey moved up to second and third on wild pitches and then scored when sophomore Lara Bean lifted a sacrifice fly to right field.

The final two runs by the visitors came in the top of the seventh when Davis singled, Boen walked, and they both moved up on a throwing error. Davis came in to score on a wild pitch, while Boen crossed the plate on a single by freshman Madison Russo.

Lady Mustangs hurlers Hooper and Raymond combined on a three-hit shutout effort.

Having signed to play at Austin Peay State University, Hooper improved to 17-3 on the season by tossing the first four frames, striking out five, walking one and giving up a pair of second inning singles, the first of which was a little dribbler down the third base line.

Raymond moved into the circle for the final three frames and the sophomore earned the save by striking out two, not giving up a free pass and allowing just a sixth inning infield single.

Cleveland State signee Meghan Ward beat out an infield hit for Bradley’s first hit, while freshman Emmaly Morgan laced a solid two-out single to left, but both were stranded in the second frame.

Ward drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the fourth and sophomore Von Harrison beat out an infield single with two out in the sixth to account for the only other Bearette base runners.
