Bradley Central rapped out 15 hits and 13 runs in a pair of games Saturday in the Trojan Classic at the McKenzie Baseball Complex.

Unfortunately for the Bears, only one of those hits, and none of the runs, came in the day’s opening contest against Collierville.

After falling 4-0 to the boys from near Memphis, Bradley bounced back for a 13-3 mercy-rule victory over Moore County.

Now 16-10 on the season, the Bears will wrap up the District 5-AAA regular season match ups against Rhea County, Monday in Evensville and Tuesday at home.

After senior Jacob Fowler’s one-out single in the second inning was the only hometown hit in Saturday’s opener, Bradley exploded right off the bat in the second outing.

Junior Chandler Duggan opened the first Bear at bat with a double and two batters later scored on another two-base knock by senior Jacob Maynard.

Fellow senior Caleb Pippenger followed with a single to put runners on the corner and after the second out of the inning was recorded, Fowler brought them both home with a two-bagger of his own.

Moore County (10-14) fought back to even the score in the top of the third inning, but Bradley pulled back up in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs.

Maynard, who went 4-for-4 in the contest and is hitting above .500 for the year, started the rally with a one-out single.

After Pippenger followed his second hit, senior Jacob Barnes was hit by a pitch for the first of three times to load the bases.

Junior Cal Pickel laced a two-out double to bring both runs.

The Bears added a solo run in their next at bat when senior Charles Chavis ripped a one-out single and after another hit by Maynard, scored on a wild pitch.

Bradley exploded for a four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth with Barnes and Fowler both getting free passes before scoring on wild pitches, while junior Jordan Timmons walked and scored on an error.

Maynard brought home junior Baylor Terrell, who had singled, with the final run of the frame, knocking his second double of the day.

Bradley ended the game early with a 3-spot in the sixth. Barnes opened the at bat by getting hit again. Fowler, juniors Hunter Sweatman and Logan Blackwell rapped three straight singles, the later of which brought home a run.

Junior Baylor Terrell drew a bases-loaded walk, before senior Brently White ended the game when he got “plunked” with the sacks full.

Sophomore Ty King (2-0) earned the pitching victory with 1 2/3 innings of relief work, striking out two, walking one and giving up just one hit.

Senior Ryan Blair picked up his second save of the season when he got out the four batters he faced, two by strike out.

Along with Maynard perfect plate work, Fowler reached base three times with a single, double and walk. He also scored twice and drove in a pair.

Barnes got on base three times and scored twice, while Pippenger went 2-for-4 with a pair of scores.

In the opener, Collierville (17-10) got a complete-game shutout effort from pitcher Peyton Sanderlin (4-3).

Senior Nate Mills started the game for the Bears and gave up just one hit in two innings of work, but was the bullpen gave up eight walks, six hits, three earned runs, while the other scored on an error.
