Mr. Carr was born on Upper Fords Creek Road in Orofino, Idaho, on Dec. 7, 1921, to Valley Gordon Carr and Ada Shelburn Carr.
Clella D. Millage was born on the Nez Perce Prairie in Nez Perce, Idaho, to William Millage and Mary Alice Sanford on April 8, 1925.
The couple met at the Lumberjack Days event in Orofino, Idaho, when Albert was 18 years old and Clella was 15. They ran off to Lewiston, Idaho, and got married on April 25, 1940.
When their families discovered they had gotten married, they separated them for several months, sending the bride to Grand Coulee, Wash., to live with her sister.
Her husband finally found her and they ran off again. That time, the family left them alone.
Mr. and Mrs. Carr made their home in Pierce and Weippe, Idaho, where they raised their daughters: Lavonne Love, Levita Carr, Lorena Parker and a foster daughter Helen Hoyt.
Carr logged, and ran a 360-acre ranch on Upper Fords Creek, Orofino, the place his family had homesteaded when they moved from West Virginia to Idaho. He had a church in Weippe and Lewiston with his wife by his side.
Mrs. Carr loved to cook, keep the family going and minister alongside her husband. Many of the children growing up in Pierce remember stopping and eating “Clella’s goodies.”
They tried to do everything together as a family. They loved to hunt the mountains of Idaho together and taught their daughters to do the same.
The Carrs have 19 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
They moved to Cleveland in May 1993 where they served as pastor of a church several years. They then visited the homestead in Harman, W.Va.
One of their grandson, Brent Carr, took them to Alaska back a few years ago where they fished and caught salmon.
The couple traveled overseas doing missionary work in Ukraine, Austria and other countries.
Asked what has given them such a long life and a wonderful marriage, the Carrs said “the Lord” — as they gave their lives to him back in 1965 and have lived for him ever since.
They still live in their own home and love to take drives. If you would like to wish them a happy 73rd wedding anniversary, send cards and wishes to Albert and Clella Carr, 322 Stone Reagen Road S.E., Cleveland TN 37323.
