Bradley County recorded its fourth traffic fatality of the year Monday afternoon after a single-vehicle crash occurred on Eureka Road.

The driver of a white Ford Explorer was headed northbound when the vehicle left the roadway, traveled down an embankment, then struck a tree.

Jeffery Scott Hunt, 46, of a Deer Trail address off of Eureka Road, was identified as the driver of the SUV. He died at the scene, according to Bob Gault, media relations coordinator for the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office.

Bradley County 911 received reports the vehicle had caught fire.

Bradley County Fire-Rescue responded to the scene to control the fire.

BCSO deputy Earl Pike arrived on the scene and attempted to extricate the man from the burning vehicle. He was overcome by smoke and flames.

According to reports, he was treated at the scene by Bradley County Emergency Medical Service paramedics.

Three crashes were reported in February which claimed two lives on county and city roadways, according to officials with the BCSO Traffic Unit.

Another crash inside the city took the life of one man when his vehicle struck a tree on King Edward Avenue.
