Oklahoma City continues to be the frontrunner but coach John Maupin is hoping his Flames can move up toward the top of the leader board for the final 36 holes.
“We played well on our second nine today (plus 1),” said Maupin. “Again, we just had some big numbers that plagued us.”
After shooting an 83 on Tuesday, freshman Peyton Sliger rebounded with a 1-over 73 on Wednesday and drew praise from the Lee golf coach. “I’m really proud of Peyton. He fired a 33 on the second nine to give us our low round. It takes a lot to bounce back like that.”
Hunter Vest followed Sliger’s 73 with a 2-over 74, while Matt Emery was 4-over at 76 and J.B Eksteen rounded out the top four Lee scorers with a 77. Florian Loutre finished with an 80.
Heading into today’s third round, Emery is tied for 31st among the 154 golfers with a 148. Vest is tied for 39th and stands at 149, while Eksteen has totaled 151, Sliger 156 and Loutre 165.
“We had some guys who battled hard today, but I’m hopeful that our best rounds are still ahead of us,” added Maupin. “We have 36 holes to go and have time to work our way up the leader board.”
