He was the son of the late Hattie Bell Neeley Rogers and Jesse Omer Rogers.
His wife, the wonderful, amazing woman of his dreams for 36 years, Mary Ruth Prince Shields Rogers; his daughter, Dedra Radman; his sons, Jerry Alan Shields and Ricky Rogers; his granddaughter, Amanda Radman; his brothers, William Rogers and his wife, Ruth, Troy Rogers and his wife, Dorothy; and his sisters, Irene Rector and her husband, Louis, Clara Gates and her husband, Ralph and Gaynell Brown also preceded him in death.
He was retired from Mohawk Carpet after many years of service and for a number of years he served as a security guard. He loved to sing Gospel Music and he sung with different quartets for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Chestuee Baptist Church where he served as choir leader for 30 years.
Survivors include his daughters: Lorette Shelton and her husband, Emery, of Old Fort, Sonya Radman and her companion, Lonnie Roman, of Stratville, Ohio and Jessie Cerra of North Lima, Ohio; his sons: Garry Shields and his companion, Tonya Darnell, Terry Shields and his wife, Sheila, all of Old Fort, and Tommy Rogers of Steubenville, Ohio; his sister-in-law, Ella Jean Shields of Old Fort; his brother-in-law, the Rev. Doyle Prince and his wife, Patsy, of Old Fort; his 20 grandchildren; his 27 great-grandchildren; his special friends at the Hardees in Ocoee and the Spring Place location; his special friend he loved to sing with at church, Brenda Smith; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Friday, May 17, 2013, afternoon at 3 from the Wildwood Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Revs. Gerald Fowler and Roger Stepp and Pastor Jason Falls officiating.
Interment will follow in the Moores Chapel Cemetery with Chris Shields, Patrick Shields, Shane Shields, Jason Falls, Jeremiah Earnest, Gerald Prince and Troy Branam serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
