Area residents who want a voice in naming their community favorites should hurry because the deadline for submitting ballots for the Reader’s Choice 2013 awards is not only nigh, it’s nigh about here.

Here’s the bottom line: Completed ballots for the annual Cleveland Daily Banner contest should be received by this newspaper — either in the postal mail or in person — no later than 5 p.m. on Monday.

That’s tomorrow!

Folks have been casting their votes now for almost two weeks so time is running out. Newspaper readers had a dilly of a time with the 2012 competition so this year’s version promises more of the same.

For the few who haven’t heard, what exactly is Reader’s Choice 2013? In short, it’s an opportunity for Cleveland Daily Banner readers to cast a vote for their favorites in five classifications which represent about 164 categories.

The classifications include Automotive, People, Restaurants, Services and Shopping.

And the categories? Well now, just sit back and loosen your belt because if there’s a favorite to be had in Cleveland and Bradley County, there’s a category for it.

Just for instance, here’s a few samplers that might raise a few brows and jump-start the creative juices in more than just a few hundred newspaper readers.

In the Automotive class, what company or service or operation do you believe offers the best auto body repair, automotive repair, tire store, oil change, auto batteries, new car sales, used car sales, new truck sales, used truck sales, window tinting, motorcycle sales and towing/wrecker service? Got some ideas? Then grab hold of a ballot out of the Cleveland Daily Banner, fill it out and get it back to our office no later than 5 p.m. Monday.

In the People class, how about a few of these: Who’s your favorite politician, community leader, volunteer, elementary or middle/high school teacher, principal, dentist, dental hygienist, attorney, doctor, nurse, employer, boss, secretary, veterinarian, caterer, stylist or barber, banker, teller, photographer, electrician, plumber, car salesman, chiropractor, funeral director, home builder, accountant, newspaper columnist, radio DJ and any number of other service providers? Got some ideas? Get that ballot. Write them down and get it back to us. Cast a vote. Be counted. Make somebody proud.

In the Restaurants class, who has the best breakfast, bakery, hamburgers, french fries, dessert, pizza, buffet, chicken, barbecue, steaks, ice cream, salad bar, sandwich, brunch, hot dogs, fine dining, sports bar and a bunch of others? Well? Write it down. Send it back. Be among the many.

In the Services class, what’s the best funeral home, gas station, college, elementary school, middle or high school, spa, tanning salon, coin laundry, car wash, fitness center, bank, credit union, apartment complex, insurance agency, golf course, nursing home, law firm, dry cleaners, computer repair, appliance repair and plenty more? You guessed it. Get a ballot. Vote. Make somebody’s day.

In Shopping, who’s got the best antiques, floor covering, shoes, gifts, paint, pharmacy, home improvements, landscaping materials, bookstore, hardware, jewelry, pool supplies, flowers, furniture, supermarket, produce, bicycles and much, much more? Plenty of contenders here. So tell others how you feel.

Submit ballots to the Cleveland Daily Banner, P.O. Box 3600, Cleveland TN 37320, or drop them off in person at our offices at 1505 25th St. The full-page ballot has been published in our newspaper for the past two weeks. Vote as often as you’d like, but you must use actual ballots from the newspaper. No photocopies. Winners will be announced in a special edition in June.

Each ballot includes a separate entry for a drawing for a $150 gift card to the Bald-Headed Bistro.

Voted yet? If not, the clock is ticking: Monday at 5 p.m.

Good luck, and happy voting!
