Mildred Joyce Hale, on the morning of Monday, May 13, 2013, the birthday of her late husband, went to her heavenly home after a short illness.

She joined her husband, Warren, her mother, Dorothy McCoy, whom she cared for until her going home at 102 years, and many other loved ones who have gone on before.

In her 81-plus years, she was known as a person of dignity who cared deeply about those suffering from financial, emotional, physical, or spiritual difficulties and not just offered her sympathies but committed her finances and personal time and property to their behalf.

In her most treasured role, she devoted herself to her family as an Army officer’s wife and mother of four. She attained a master’s of early childhood education and taught kindergarten for 15 years in the Chatham County (Ga.) School System in addition to various Bible teaching and ministry positions at Ardsley Park Baptist Church during her 35 years in Savannah, Ga.

Upon returning to her hometown of Cleveland to care for her aging parents, Ted and Dorothy McCoy, she continued her generosity and ministry to others in the Flint Springs community.

She leaves behind everyone who was privileged and blessed to have known her and mourn her absence including her daughters: Deborah Tillman of Glennville, Ga., Molly Baker of Savannah, and Angela Rimes of Pembroke, Ga.; her only son, Harlan Hale of Decatur, Ga.; grandchildren: Aaron Tompkins, Christian Tillman, Joshua Tillman, Sybil Teles, Saba Hale, Nathan Rimes, and Eric Rimes; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Tompkins, Malone Tompkins, Hogan Teles, Nina Teles, Hunter Rimes, and Leila Rimes; sisters: Helen Dixon of Cleveland and Linda Maddox of Anniston, Ala.; brothers: Bill McCoy and Joe McCoy of Cleveland, and Dwight McCoy from Darby, Mont.; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 19, 2013, in the chapel of Grissom Funeral Home.

Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Children’s International, Child ID No. 1063222, Child ID No. 704229, P.O. Box 219055, Kansas City MO 64121, or to Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 140800, Nashville TN 37214-0800.
