A lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie and Morein Burns Carroll. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, George L. Varnell; and two sisters: Jean Dodson and Nancy Wiley.
She was a member of the Calhoun United Methodist Church. She was associated with the U.S. Postal service for 19 years at the Calhoun Post Office.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law: Nancy Hicks of Washington, D.C., Judy and Bill Taibl of Margate, Fla., and Sally and Doug McConkey of Calhoun; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Calhoun United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mary Parson officiating.
Interment will follow in Calhoun Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 6:45 p.m., Thursday, prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Zack Owens, Thomas Jacobs, Chuck Pickens, Mitch Boyd, James McCullough and Bill Matthews.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Calhoun United Methodist Church, 820 Highway 163, Calhoun TN 37309.
