Charles Edward Ruth, 75, passed into eternity on Tuesday, May 21, 2013.

He was nicknamed “Billy Boy” by his grandmother, many friends and family continued to call him “Bill”.

He was born in Oakman, Ga. and soon became a lifetime resident of Cleveland. He was the son of the late C.L. and Edna Woods Ruth. He also had three brothers who have gone to be with the Lord: Leroy, Jerry Dean and Christopher Byron Ruth.

His last employment was with Duracell Battery. He served in the US Navy and US Army and Reserves. He served faithfully as a deacon at Philadelphia Baptist Church for 20 years, and also served the church as treasurer and missionary committee-man. He was presently a member of Beacon Baptist off Corvin Road. He loved his Lord, his church, his hometown and his family and many friends. He was greatly appreciated and will be sadly missed.

He was the devoted husband of Mary Elizabeth Rodgers Ruth for 49 years. They have three children: Michael Ruth, Wendy Hamilton and Jason Ruth; one daughter-in-law, Karen Ruth; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; granddaughters: Jessica Davidson of Nashville, Marissa JoBeth Hamilton and Autumn Elizabeth Ruth; grandsons: Andrew Johnson, Charlie Ruth and Samuel Ruth, all of Cleveland; one granddaughter-in-law, Demetra Lands Ruth; one great-granddaughter, Annabelle Ruth; one grandson-in-law, Michael Davidson; two brothers: James “Jim” Ruth Sheriff of Bradley County and Cecil Ruth of Huntsville; five sisters-in-law: Louise Ruth, Ernestine Ruth and Cathy Ruth, all of Cleveland Linda Ruth of Huntsville and Missy Ruth of Maryville; brother-in-law, William May of Maryville; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life service will be held 7 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at Beacon Baptist Church with Pastor Floyd Boggess and the Rev. Joe Baker; Charles’, friend and former pastor, officiating.

Interment will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Shiloh Cemetery off Highway 64 with full military honors.

Casket bearers will be Johnny Burnett, Kalvin Morrison, David Buckner, Michael Davidson, Robert Ruth and Mathew Ruth; honorary casket bearers will be grandsons: Andrew Johnson, Charlie Ruth Samuel Ruth and nephews: Matthew Ruth and Rob Ruth.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 to 7 at the church.
