He was of the Baptist faith and attended Mt. Eagle Baptist Church in Charleston before moving to Murfreesboro.
He was retired from Bendix in Cleveland and enjoyed fishing.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Elizabeth Cash Massengill; and 10 brothers and sisters: Ruth Thompson, Sarah Massey, Frances Looney, Betty Donohoo, Edith Swafford, Herbert Massengill, Carter Lee Massengill, Roy Massengill, James Massengill and Edward Massengill.
Memories of love and cherished times will be shared by his family, his wife of 58 years, Frankie Jo Massengill of Murfreesboro; devoted son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Laura-Jean Massengill of Nashville; grandchildren: Tabitha Denise Buffington and Garry (Shaquanta) Massengill Jr. of Murfreesboro; four great-grandchildren: William Nicholas Buffington, Ciara Nicole Buffington, Alancea Jade Massengill and Morgan Alana Massengill; one sister, Lena May Andrew of Winchester; sister-in-law, Jessie Boyd of Charleston; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of M.D. Dotson and Sons Funeral Home in Cleveland with the Rev. Aubrey Ector officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Charleston.
The family will receive friends on Friday at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m.
