Andrew Thomas “Tom” Grayson, 90, of Athens, died Thursday morning, May 23, 2013, at Morning Pointe of Athens.

Although he will be sadly missed, the Christian legacy that he leaves behind and the personal integrity in which he led his life is an example for us all and cannot be fully measured.

A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late John Frank and Swannie McGhee Grayson. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Ogle Grayson to whom he was married for 57 years before she passed away in 2000. He married Twilla Mae Dodson in 2005 and remained married to her until her passing in 2011. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Chris Grayson; five sisters: Kathryn Harrod, Jean Snyder, Mildred Lay, Geraldine Erwin and Dorathy G. Donaldson; and three brothers: Calvin Grayson, Robert Grayson and Joe Grayson.

He was a member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 50 years.

He was retired from Bowater’s Southern Paper Corp. after 33 years of service.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid golfer for more than 50 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Pat Christopher of Knoxville; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Jean Grayson of Athens; a granddaughter and her husband, Lisa and Jeff Lowe of Johnson City; great-grandchildren: Tyler and Tara Lowe of Johnson City, Hannah and Brent Grayson of Athens; and a sister-in-law, Pat Grayson of Lenoir City.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home & Cremation Services, with the Rev. Dan Donaldson officiating.

Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Joe Riley, Mark Grayson, Ed Lay, Ray Whitlock, Jason Farris, Glen Ingram and Doug Harrod.
