Nashville — Erica Scoggins of Cleveland, daughter of Julia and Dale Scoggins, graduated from Belmont University with a bachelor’s degree in English/writing and a bachelor of fine arts in studio art on Dec. 14 2012, during the Nashville school’s winter commencement ceremony.

Scoggins, the granddaughter of Doris and Ionla Scoggins of Cleveland, graduated Magna Cum Laude for maintaining a 3.94 GPA. She is a member of the Alpha Chi national honor Society, the Sigma Tau Delta international English Society and the Kappa Pi international honorary Art Fraternity. Scoggins was the recipient of the Department of Art’s Russell Leu Rising Senior Award and won first lace in Screenwriting and first place in Playwriting in the Humanities Symposium Writing Contest. She qualified for dean’s list recognition eight times. She has been accepted at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, Calif., where she will pursue a master of fine arts degree in film directing and screenwriting.

Belmont University is ranked No. 7 in the Regional Universities South category and named for the fifth consecutive year as one of the top “Up-and-Comer” universities by U.S. News & World Report. The university consists of approximately 6,650 who come from every state and 25 countries.
