Volunteer Energy Cooperative’s VECustomers Share program presented $4,080 in grants to Bradley County organizations in May.

The program, founded in October 2001, has donated more than $4.5 million to various community-service organizations across VEC’s 17-county service area.

Bradley County groups receiving grants in May include: Southeast Tennessee Resource Conservation and Development Council which received a $1,400 grant; the Family Resource Agency’s Family Violence Program was awarded a $1,000 grant; Cleveland Bradley County Public Library accepted a $500 grant; Calhoun Alumni Association garnered a $500 grant; Cleveland Civitan Club collected a $250 grant; Tri-State Therapeutic Riding Center received a $250 grant; Remote Area Medical Foundation was awarded a $100 grant; and Cleveland Composite Civil Air Patrol Squadron obtained an $80 grant.

VECustomers Share is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization covering VEC’s 17-county service area. The foundation’s funds come from VEC members who have opted to allow VEC to round their electric bills up to the next whole dollar. VECustomers Share contributions average 50 cents per month per customer.

The extra change is pooled with that of other members and distributed by the foundation’s board of directors, who all serve as volunteers.

Grant applications are available at any Volunteer Energy Cooperative Customer Service center, by calling 423-334-7051, or at www.vec.org.
