The Tennessee County Trustee’s Association has announced Bradley County Trustee Mike Smith as this year’s recipient of the Trustee of the Year Award for the East Tennessee Division.

“I am honored my fellow trustee's chose me as the East Tennessee Trustee of the year for 2013. My staff and I work very hard to maintain high customer service and continually look for innovative ways to assist Bradley County taxpayers and Bradley County government,” Smith said in a brief interview.

This is second time Smith has been honored with the award. He was also selected in 2009.

One element of the department Smith said he’s extremely proud of is the implementation of the partial payment plan.

Smith said Bradley County was one of the first to implement such a program, making it simpler for county residents to pay their taxes. Partial payment programs have been set up for current and delinquent property taxes, with a variety of payment options available.

According to a department press release, “A lifelong resident of Bradley County, Smith works to provide the taxpayers of Bradley County with high quality service at a low cost.”

Smith has served as the Bradley County Trustee since being elected to the position in 2006. Prior to becoming trustee, Smith served on the Bradley County Commission for 16 years.
