He was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church, where he also served as an elder.
He was a well-known builder in the Cleveland area and served as a past president of the Home Builders Association. He retired from the United States Post Office. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Ruth Allen of 60 years; and his parents, Eugene “Gene” and Reba Allen.
He is survived by his three sons: Thomas Kiestler Allen and wife, Rose, of Charleston, Charles David Allen and wife, Brenda, of Lenoir City and Mark Franklin Allen and wife, Kathey, of Manchester; one sister, Martha Wooden and husband, Tom, of Cleveland; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Pastor Karyn Bogert officiating.
Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with military honors.
Family members Jason Allen, J.J. Brown, Brian Comer, Ricky Lawson, Danny Wooden and Josh Holder will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
