The cargo a Delano man was hauling when his 18-wheeler rig crashed in Catoosa County, Ga., is believed to have caused his death, according to reports from the Georgia State Patrol.

William Gene Guinn, 61, died Wednesday morning after his tractor-trailer rig rear-ended another rig which was stopping at a Georgia weigh station. The crash occurred at 11:20 a.m. on Interstate 75 southbound.

GSP trooper W.B. Dedman filed a report stating Guinn was hauling a roll of steel which came loose after impacting the other truck rig.

The steel reportedly crashed into the cab of Guinn’s rig, causing his death, according Dedman’s report.

The condition of the driver of the other rig involved was not immediately made available by authorities.

Higgins Funeral Home in Benton is in charge of arrangements.
