Details are few regarding a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper who was hit by an alleged drunk driver Saturday morning. Christopher Wagner, 36, of Athens was arrested, according to THP officials.

Just before 8 a.m., a call received by local dispatchers at the Bradley County 911 Center alerted them to a possible drunk driver who was traveling on Interstate 75.

Less than a minute later, according to a 911 report, the tan SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer, collided with a THP cruiser near the Hamilton County/Bradley County line. Trooper Pumpy Tudors was on a traffic stop when the SUV collided with the passenger side of his cruiser.

The report noted Wagner had been swerving over the lanes of travel and onto the shoulder of the roadway.

Both Tudors and the the sole occupant of the vehicle involved in the traffic stop were transported via Bradley County Emergency Medical Service for treatment. Delante Toran, 21, of Chattanooga was identified as the driver who had been stopped along with the trooper.

Tudors was treated and released from Erlanger Medical Center, according to reports from Dalya Qualls, information officer for THP.

Qualls said Wagner was charged with DUI (drugs), failure to exercise due caution and violation of the move over law.

He was booked at the Bradley County Jail and remained in custody Saturday evening, according to Bob Gault, media relations coordinator for BCSO.

Aiding at the scene were Bradley County Fire Rescue, Bradley County Sheriff’s Office and Bradley County EMS.
