Shirley Jean Calhoun, 65, a former resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013, in Chattanooga.

She was born to the late Mabel L. and John W. Hinton. She was the wife of the late Leroy Calhoun.

She professed her faith in Jesus Christ at a very young age and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she attended until she became ill.

She is survived by her only son, Quincy A. Calhoun; and one granddaughter, Karisma Calhoun, both of Chattanooga; one grandson, Cyrus Claybough who currently is stationed at Camp LaJune, N.C.; one sister, Brenda Thomas; and one brother, John W. Hinton Jr., both of Northridge, Calif.; one nephew, Justin W. Hinton, of Palmdale, Calif.; three great-nephews of Palmdale; and other cousins.

A graveside service will be held Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave., Chattanooga.

The family will gather at noon at the entrance of the cemetery.

The service will begin 12:30 p.m. at the gravesite.

Per Shirley Jean Calhoun’s will, the body will not be viewed.

Words of comfort will be spoken by the Rev. Alfred B. Johnson Sr. of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
