CHATTANOOGA — The Bradley Central Bears opened the 2013 golf season on a sour note Tuesday.

The Bears travelled to Windstone Golf Course only to run into a very talented group of Hurricanes from East Hamilton, which have all but one player back from last year’s fifth place team at the TSSAA State Championship.

The ‘Canes claimed a 156-184 victory, while the Bearettes came away with forfeit due to East Hamilton having just one female player.

“East Hamilton is an experienced team with three seniors, while this the first varsity match for many of our boys. We didn’t play well, but give East Hamilton credit they are in the top two or three teams in the district. We just have to keep working and improving”, said coach Jim Kibler.

East Hamilton’s Matt Wilson claimed medalist honors with a 1-over-par 37, while Tucker Venable shot a 39. Ian Newman and Tyler Ward rounded out the ’Cane scoring with 40s.

Chase Montgomery led the Bears with a 42, while Baylor McGowan carded a 44. Tyler Parris and Matthew Maynard added a 48 and 50 to the Bradley score.

The Bears and Bearettes return to the links today in a three-way match at Chatata Valley with Cleveland and Walker Valley.
