Willie Mae Hamby, 88, a lifelong resident of Athens, passed away Tuesday night, Aug. 13, 2013, at her home.

She was born in Athens on Oct. 18, 1924, a daughter of the late Faddie and Josie Gregory.

She was of the Christian faith. She will always be remembered for the way she loved her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hamby; one daughter, Wanda Wheeler; and one son, James Hamby.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory five daughters: Mary Collins, Joann Blankenship, Janice Lawson and husband, Tommy, Brenda Hamby and Glenda Hamby; one son, Eugene Hamby; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; and other extended family members and a host of special friends.

A celebration of her life is planned for Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at 5 p.m. at Faith Baptist Tabernacle, 251 County Road 128, Athens with Pastor Jeff Evans officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church on Friday afternoon from 3 p.m. until the 5 p.m. service time.

The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 6221 Shallowford Road Suite 102, Chattanooga, TN 37421 in Willie’s memory.
