Toni Mantooth Hewitt, 58, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 18, 2013, in a Chattanooga hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Bessie Mae Nelson Mantooth and Johnnie Carl Mantooth. She was also preceded in death by her sisters: Wilma Mantooth and Evelyn Mantooth.
She worked as a substitute teacher for the Bradley County Schools system. She worked many years for Shreve Ministries as a prayer intercessor.
She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed praying and reading her Bible. The best way to sum up her life is to say she was a committed and a dedicated person, committed and dedicated to God to the proclamation of his word and to her family that she loved so dearly. She was truly a bright light shining in a dark world. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
She was a member of The Church of God at Southside.
Survivors include her husband, James Darrell Hewitt of Cleveland; her daughters: Christine Hewitt of Cleveland and Elaine Hewitt Morrison and her husband, Charlie, of Rocky Face, Ga.; her son, David Hewitt and his wife, Deanna, of Cleveland; grandchildren: Trey Dunn, Kaitlyn Hewitt and Kristyn Hewitt; her sisters: Mary Louise Sprinkle of Adairsville, Ga., and Billie Conner of Forsythe, Mont.; special friend, Edna Marlene Parton, her church family and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at the Wildwood Avenue Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Pastor Mike Shreve and Pastor Roger Ammons officiating.
Interment will follow in the Veterans Section of Fort Hill Cemetery with James Darrell Hewitt, Charlie Morrison, Trey Dunn, Michael Sanders, Terry Mullinax, Nicholas Holmes, Chadd Holmes and Andy Burns serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
