The Blue Raiders fought hard but came up a little short in a 152-160 match with the Hurricanes, while the Lady Raiders notched a victory due to the fact EH only has one female golfer.
Senior Conner Caprara “hit just three fairways, but scrambled” successfully, according to coach Nick Cantrell, to lead the Raiders with an even-par 35 on the course’s front nine.
Chris Bryant, also a senior, helped out with a 4-over-par 39, while freshman Allen Swetman and sophomore Tucker Jones rounded out the CHS tally with a 42 and 44 respectively.
“I was pleased with Chris (Bryant), but we struggled to get a fourth score,” coach Cantrell stated. “Getting four consistent scores is our biggest struggle.”
East Hamilton, which finished fifth at the TSSAA Class AA state tournament last season, had four scores of 40 or better on the day.
Logan Price equaled Caprara’s 35 for low-medalist, while Tucker Venable fired a 38, Ian Newman a 39 and Matt Wilson a 40.
In the girls’ play, Cleveland’s Heidi Barringer had the low score with a 43, while teammate Shinduri Vijayakuma shot 62.
Lady Hurricane Madalyn Hembree carded a 50.
Bucs buck Wildcats
Over at the Chatata Valley course Monday, Polk County hosted Boyd-Buchanan and the Chattanooga private school captured both matches.
The Bucs took a 166-183 win over the Wildcats, while the Lady Bucs won 87-100.
Trent Marshall pace Boyd Buchanan’s boys with a 38, while teammates Jack Wood shot 42, plus Tanner Zumbrun and Jake Campbell each posted a 43.
Polk’s Michael Rongey earned low-medalist honors with a 1-over-par 37. Ryan Droke (46), Tyler Brown (48) and Will Richmond (52) rounded out the Wildcat score.
Lauren Foster topped the Lady Buc effort with a 42, while Madison Balthrop shot a 45.
Both Heather Ellis and Lauren Passmore carded 50s for Polk.
