Dr. J.N. Howard, pastor of Signal Mountain United Methodist Church, will participate in the “Local Authors” book sale at East Gate Town Center, Chattanooga, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 27.

His book, “Fire in the Mountains: A Story of Spiritual Awakening,” will be available for sale at the event, which is part of the Friends of the Library book sale. Twenty percent of the profit from the book goes to FOLA book sales.

Howard, a native Chattanoogan, has served churches in Cleveland and Chattanooga, as well as southwestern Virginia. While serving in that coal mining area of Virginia, at the Breaks of the Cumberland Mountains, Howard witnessed and participated in a unique spiritual awakening which is the subject of his book.

Howard is an honor graduate of Chattanooga Central High School and received his bachelor of arts degree from Emory and Henry College in Virginia. At Emory and Henry, he was honored, also, with an honorary doctor of divinity degree. He earned his master of divinity degree at Emory University in Atlanta.

He resides with his wife, Ella, in Marion County.
