Author Julie Gumm will be the speaker. Gumm and her husband, Mark, have four children from two continents. She blogs about her family at fourplusmore.com.
The first session, “Adopt Without Debt,” will be held Sept. 27 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.
Gumm said to not let “the cost of adoption stop you from pursuing your dream.”
In her book, “Adopt Without Debt,” she offers advice on getting grants, tax credits, employer adoption benefits as well as sharing creative ways to raise funds.
In 2000, the Gumms declared “war” on debt. Seven years later as they paid their last payment on the mortgage, “God called them to adopt two children from Ethiopia.”
A year later, they brought Wendemagegn and Beza home and proved debt-free adoption was possible.
The workshop will focus on specific examples of families and the various methods used to raise funds.
The second workshop, “If You Were Mine,” is set for Sept. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
This is a DVD-led workshop to provide an in-depth look at adoption from a biblical perspective.
It will begin by exploring God’s heart for adoption, and will go into a detailed look at evaluating agencies and funding your adoption, according to a church representative.
“You will also have the opportunity to explore international adoption, foster care adoption, and private/domestic adoption, as well as hear an adoptive parent panel as they answer some of the most common questions about adoption and foster care,” the representative said.
“If You Were Mine” will allow prospective adoptive parents to gain a biblical understanding of adoption, and a clearer picture of what to expect from the adoption process.
Registration for the workshops is due by Sept. 22. Cost is $30 for an individuals for one workshop or $55 for both, or $40 for a couple for one workshop or $75 for both.
The cost of the “Adopt Without Debt” workshop includes the book, materials and snacks. The cost of the “If You Were Mine” session includes workbook, materials, lunch and snacks.
