“There’s a sweet tooth in all of us,” said a Tennessee State Fair official who is leading the search for the best apple pie in the state.

Kinsey Emery, State Fair event manager, said the introduction this year of the “Tennessee Two Crust Apple Pie Contest” at the Fair is attracting interest from one end of the state to the other.

“It’s all about bragging rights and also some cash prizes,” Emery said referring to the baking contest that is set to determine who the best apple pie maker is in the state of Tennessee.

The winner is to be named on Sept. 14, one day before the State Fair closes.

Emery said the best apple pie baker will walk away with a Tennessee State Fair Blue Ribbon and a $500 cash award. Plus, as she puts it, all the “bragging rights” for having baked the state’s best apple pie.

The Tennessee State Fair opens on Sept. 6 and runs for 10 days through Sept. 15.

The Tennessee State Fair, a family tradition for the Volunteer state since 1906, is held annually in the heart of Nashville at the State Fairgrounds.

Providing family entertainment in a welcoming environment, a magnificent midway, and fun for all ages, the Fair is visited each year by thousands from all across Tennessee and neighboring states.
