W. Jerry German, 69, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away on Friday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2013, in a local hospital.
He was born on April 24, 1944. He was of the Baptist faith. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army after faithfully serving our country. He was an avid collector of classic cars, enjoyed traveling and loved to watch old movies. He also enjoyed sharing breakfast with his friends almost every day at the local Hardees where he termed it his “Hardees Breakfast Club”.
He is preceded in death by his father, William German; mother, Frances German Ensley; and stepfather, Carl Ensley.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his long time companion, Karen Jones; one daughter, Rebecca Corbitt and her husband, Larry, of Richmond Hill, Ga.; one sister, Janice Ensley Watson and her husband, Boyce; two grandchildren, Lacy Holmes of Ann Arbor, Mich. and Trey Holmes of Richmond Hill; and one nephew, Jamie Watson and his wife, Darlena, of Young Harris, Ga. He is also survived by numerous other extended family members and a host of special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for Tuesday night, Sept.17, 2013, at 7 p.m. at the Stuart Park Baptist Church located at 850 17th Street NW with the Rev. Earl Farris officiating.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday night from 6 until the 7 p.m. service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital in Jerry’s memory.
