W. Jerry German, 69, a lifelong resident of this area, passed away on Friday afternoon, Sept. 13, 2013, in a local hospital.
He was born on April 24, 1944. He was of the Baptist faith. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Army after faithfully serving our country. He was an avid collector of classic cars, enjoyed traveling and loved to watch old movies. He also enjoyed sharing breakfast with his friends almost every day at the local Hardee’s, which he termed his “Hardee’s Breakfast Club.”
He was preceded in death by his father, William German; mother, Frances German Ensley; and stepfather, Carl Ensley.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his longtime companion, Karen Jones; one daughter, Rebecca Corbitt and her husband, Larry, of Richmond Hill, Ga.; one sister, Janice Ensley Watson and her husband, Boyce; two grandchildren: Lacy Holmes of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Trey Holmes of Richmond Hill; one nephew, Jamie Watson and his wife, Darlena, of Young Harris, Ga.; and several other extended family members and a host of special friends.
A celebration of his life is planned for today, Sept. 17, 2013, at 7 p.m. at Stuart Park Baptist Church, 850 17th St. N.W., with the Rev. Earl Farris officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 until the 7 p.m. service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital in Jerry’s memory.
