ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — The Lee men’s golf team will take a 4-stroke lead as they head into the final round of the final round of the Coastal Georgia Fall Invitational on Tuesday.
With sophomore Taylor Davis (70-72 - 142) leading the way, the Flames turned in (36 hole) scores of 285-287 (572) to garner the lead over the host College of Coastal Georgia club.
Freshman Shea Sylvester (73-70 - 142) was also impressive. Junior Hunter Vest opened with a 75, but rallied back with a 2-under 70 to finish at 145. Senior Matt Emery opened with an even-par 72, but slipped to a 75 in the second round and tallied a 177. Sophomore Peyton Sliger began the day with a 2-under 70, but closed with a 77 to match Emery’s 147.
“I thought we played very well today,” commented coach John Maupin. “The course is set up to score well on, but it was a physically grinding day; 36 holes is a lot of golf in one day and it was a very hot day.
Maupin praised his younger players, saying, “I was also really pleased to see some of our younger players step up for us today. They all posted a red number in at least one round and that’s important. We are locked in a battle with a very good Coastal Georgia team, so tomorrow should be a lot of fun.”
