Third Vice Chair Franklin Chancey said Morelock deserves the admiration and respect of all residents of the community.
“Without regard for his political standing, without regard for his personal popularity, Jeff Morelock sponsors, advocates and champions the cause of quality education for no other reason than the virtue of his actions,” Chancey said.
“His courage in proposing a tax increase for the sole reason of improving our children’s education is in the finest tradition of American Democracy.
“Commissioner Morelock’s honor, virtue and dedication to the long-term welfare of our community, rather than his short-term political interests fill our party with pride. Thank you, Jeff Morelock, for your service and know that your example will inspire your colleagues in the future.”
“I don’t think I’ve done anything special. I just care about Bradley County,” Morelock said when he received the award.
“I hope the community will get behind our educational system and support proper funding for the city and county school systems.”
The Bradley County Democratic Party’s Profiles in Courage recognition is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning work by John F. Kennedy, which honored Americans who rose above fear and censure in service to their country.
