According to BCFR Chief Troy Maney, the 911 call came in around 2 p.m.
Firefighters responded to a Keith Valley Road address where a 40-by-60-foot pole barn was engulfed in flames.
Maney said the owner had been mowing, pulled the mower into the barn to unhook accessories and left the mower running.
The exhaust from the engine ignited a round bale of hay, eventually spreading fire to the other bales.
No injuries were reported.
According to Maney, property loss was estimated at approximately $60,000.
n Chain link fencing material was the target for thieves who entered property at a Rodney Way address late last week. According to a report filed by deputy Kevin Chastain of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office, Robert Gray said someone took a 120-foot roll of fencing from the rear of his property. The fence material was stored near an outbuilding.
The theft was believed to have occurred Tuesday or Wednesday.
Gray estimated his loss at $75.
n Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting sobriety checkpoints in Polk County beginning this weekend. It will also conduct safety belt checkpoints beginning Oct. 5 in Polk County.
The checkpoints will be set up in random locations in the county.
According to THP officials, checkpoints are an effective means of recognizing the dangers presented to the driving public by motorists who would violate the laws of the state.
All scheduled checkpoints are contingent upon weather conditions and manpower availability.
