CHATTANOOGA — The first day of the CCS girls soccer tournament was a successful one for Cleveland.

The Lady Raiders took on Boyd-Buchanan Thursday night and finished the evening with a 4-0 win.

McKenzie Harris got the first goal for Cleveland 18 minutes into the first 40 minutes of play, with an assist from Sam DeBien.

Just nine minutes later, DeBien scored her first goal of the evening, which gave the Lady Raiders a 2-0 lead going into the half.

In the 46th minute of play, DeBien got her second goal of the game, with the assist coming from Hope Haas.

Haas scored the final goal for Cleveland with 10 minutes remaining on the clock, with an assist from DeBien.

While the Lady Raiders racked up 17 shots on goal, the Lady Buccaneers were only able to get three shots on goal, all of which were blocked by goalkeeper Jenna Scoggins.

Cleveland takes on Tennessee High today at 5 p.m.

The Lady Mustangs traveled to Hixson on Thursday for some nondistrict soccer action.

“It was a physical battle and we came back from behind twice,” Lady Mustang coach Nathan Brown said. “Hixson played a very good game — they had their game plan and stuck to it.”

Jacey Edwards got the first Walker Valley goal in the first half, with the assist coming from Allyson Flock.

Both teams were tied 1-1 going into halftime.

The Lady Wildcats were able to take a 2-1 lead in the second half, but Mya Patel’s goal, assisted by Kenzie Morris, once again tied things up.

Despite getting 24 shots on goal, the Lady Mustangs were unable to get that game-winning goal, so the match ended in a tie.

“Even though we should have won, huge strides have been made,” Brown commented.

Walker Valley will return to District 5-AAA action on Tuesday, as the squad travels across the county to take on rival Bradley Central at 6 p.m.
