The Taylors Family and Community Education Club met Oct. 1 at Taylors Ruritan Club. Hostesses were Vergie Toomey and Sherrie Duvall.

Oleta Ownby opened the noon meeting with The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Pauline Cartwright called the roll, which was answered by “What is your favorite FCE activity or program?”

Bennie Jenkins gave the blessing of the food. Plans were finalized for decorating and setting up for the Fall rally. Plans were also discussed for the club Christmas party and the Christmas Cottage to be held on Nov. 23.

Kaye Smith of Bradley County Extension gave the education program on “Those Appealing Apples.” She said apples are fat free, salt free, contain natural sugars called fructose, and a medium apple has only 80 calories. Apples are an excellent source of fiber and a convenient snack you can take anywhere, she said. They provide as much fiber as a serving of bran cereal. They are also helpful, Smith added, in getting the recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables daily. Apples are plentiful at this time of year.

Others present were Retha Odom, Joan Bryson, Linda Brown, Doreen Johnson, Mary Ann Cornelius, Brenda Carder, Juanita Wilson, Mary Bagley, Judy Bowlin and June Parks.
