The Bradley County to Bryan College connection has added another athlete.

Joining some of her former teammates on the Lady Lions basketball program, Maggie Thompson stated, "I feel Bryan College has a lot to offer. The small Christian college atmosphere is exactly what I was searching for. I especially look forward to playing for Coach (Jason) Smith and Bryan College."

Smith commented, "Maggie is excited to attend Bryan and re-connect with some friends from the past. Her enthusiasm will go a long way for her success here at Bryan. We have been fortunate to recruit players from the highly successful Bradley Central program and we are thankful that Maggie will continue the legacy of the Bradley-Bryan connection. I look forward to working with her to assist in developing her game at the next level."

The daughter of Stanley and Holly Thompson and granddaughter of Ned and Ann Johnson and Lewis and Louise Thompson, Thompson played at Walker Valley before transferring to Bradley Central for her final high school season. She also played travel basketball with Tennessee Team Pride, based out of Smyrna, and the Knoxville Lady Panthers.

While with Tennessee Team Pride her squad won the AAU State Championship all three years, and was ranked in the top three at the national level. She was coached by Clifford Coleman, the coach at Lancaster Christian in Middle Tennessee.

Thompson also played her last 2 1/2 years with the Knoxville Lady Panthers coached by Kyle Herring and Don Brown. She also played on their Elite 80 fall league, from which numerous colleges recruit players to play at the next level.

Thompson also had scholarship offers from Martin Methodist, Hiwassee College and Covenant College. In addition, she also had an offer to play at Truett-McConnell.

She chose Bryan College because it is a small Christian college with a strong academic program, plus it is close to home. When asked about the coaching staff and school in general, Thompson stated, “Coach Smith and the assistant coaches at Bryan are amazing, and the school is equally amazing.”

She is excited about being a Bryan Lion and looking forward to their season starting in just a few weeks. She said she was also excited at the fact that several of her old teammates, from Tennessee Team Pride and the Knoxville Lady Panthers, also signed with Bryan. Thompson will also be joining the team that includes former Bradley County players Keila Formont and Taylor Neuharth.
