Talley Construction Co., Rossville, Ga., began working on the concrete box bridges across the Conasauga River and Conasauga River Overflow on Jan. 23, 2012.
Spring Place Road was closed in early February 2012 to through traffic at Ladd Springs Road, which left daily commuters between the two states searching for alternative routes.

Other transportation improvements in the county include construction of a bridge on APD 40 across Interstate 75 at the Exit 20 interchange. Any work requiring interstate lane closures is limited to Sunday through Thursday nights between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Tennessee Highway Patrol will assist with traffic control as necessary.
Plans call for rebuilding all four ramps (exit and entry), and replacing the existing bridge spanning the interstate with a new one with three 12-foot wide lanes in both directions and 12-foot wide shoulders. The total width of the new bridge is 97 feet, 3 inches.
Estimated project completion date is November 2015.
There is similar work on Benton Pike, Durkee Road and Michigan Avenue Road on the State Industrial Access route serving Whirlpool Corporation.
Motorists are asked to pay close attention to construction signs and flaggers on the roadway, and to beware of intermittent lane shifts. The estimated project completion date is July 2014.
In addition, motorists are advised to use caution in the area of mile 11, near Maddens Branch, on U.S. Highway 64 through the Ocoee River Gorge. The road has been narrowed to one lane since an Aug. 28 rockslide. Portable signal lights are in place to control traffic flow.
TDOT is letting a contract for slide repair. Bids will be opened Oct. 18. TDOT has asked that the work be done while keeping one lane open during the repair work.
