Joseph Hoyt Campbell, 72 a lifelong resident of Reliance, went home to be with Jesus on Saturday night, Oct. 12, 2013, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Reliance on May 3, 1941, a son of the late Hershel and Daisy Campbell.

He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Greasy Creek Baptist Church since age 11. He worked at Pioneer Furniture Company, in Athens, until his retirement. He loved hunting and fishing, but above all was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Jewel Dabbs, Janie Darnell and Grace Anderson; and three brothers: Leland Campbell, E.P. Campbell and Winfred “W.C.” Campbell.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Frances Withrow Campbell; one daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Scott Waters of Old Fort; one son, Doug Campbell; two granddaughters: Samantha and Kelie Waters of Old Fort; two sisters, Almeta Taylor and Ova Wilson, both of Cleveland; one brother and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Joann Campbell; several other family members and a host of special friends.

A celebration of his life is planned for Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Greasy Creek Baptist Church in Reliance, with the Revs. David Moore and Johnny Townsand officiating.

Interment will follow in the Greasy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Reed Sullivan, Wade Wilcox, Adam Withrow, Mark Darnell, Jimmy Withrow and Terry Satterfield serving as pallbearers. Kenny Campbell will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends at the church today, Oct. 15, 2013, from 5 until 8 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
