He was a longtime resident of McMinn County, and at the time of his death he resided in Decatur.
He was the son of the late Roy and Thelma Duke Watson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie Jean Sherrill Watson; daughter, Madeline Jean Watson; and brothers: Earl, Lewis and William Watson.
He was a member of Rogers Creek Baptist Church.
He worked his early years with Southeastern Silo Co., and then Tri-State Silo Co. He built and repaired the majority of the silos on farms in our local area and across the state of Tennessee. He then was associated with the Heil Company as a welder until his retirement. After retiring from the Heil Company, he worked as a groundskeeper at White Oaks Golf Course.
He is survived by four daughters: Christine Watson Corum and her husband, Terry, of Athens, Charlene Watson Stewart and her husband, Ken, of Wartrace, Catherine Watson Milling and her husband, Charles, of Cleveland and Renee Watson Bentley and her husband, Gordon, of Athens; four grandsons: William W. Stewart of Texas, Jacob W. Bentley of Knoxville, Matthew A. Bentley of Athens and Jarreth C. Milling of Cleveland; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Darlene and Don Conley of Harrison, Hazel and Sid Stafford and Alisa and Paul Helton, all of Lenoir City; and seven brothers and five sisters-in-law: James Watson of Toccoa, Ga., Virgil and Debbie Watson of Sanford, N.C., Charles and Maria of Cleveland, Carey and Pam Watson of Cleveland, Kenny Watson of Cleveland, Carl and Deborah Watson of McDonald and Robert and Lisa Watson of Cleveland.
The funeral will be held at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Athens, with the Rev. Caggie Scruggs officiating.
The committal service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in McMinn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Mohammad Arjomandi, Nick Wade, Tony Blair, Steve Moses, Richard Davis and Jim Bob Cucciarre.
