The Walker Valley High School World Languages Club recently visited the Unity Center. More than 20 high school students and their club sponsors — Mindy Freeman (Spanish teacher) and Lisa Eulo (German teacher) — visited Unity Center in October. While at Unity, the students heard an overview of the development of the ministry, toured the facility, saw a DVD of student testimonies about Unity Center and filled out paperwork for becoming volunteers. The morning was complete as the students enjoyed and completely devoured a tray full of pumpkin-chocolate chip cookies which had been prepared by the current Cooking Class at Unity Center (six fourth through sixth-graders) the day before. Unity Center is an East Cleveland outreach ministry of Broad Street United Methodist Church. A major program is the Future After School Program which operates four days per week. The students at Unity Center come from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The Future After School Program is dependent on volunteers and there are many opportunities to serve. The most significant need is for tutors and persons to assist with homework. The Unity Center is always looking for volunteers from the community.
