Cleveland State Community College will be hosting a community open house for Studio Connect, the college’s newest service for students, on Friday, Nov. 8 from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

Located in the CSCC Library, Studio Connect offers a relaxed, high tech space for students to create and collaborate.

In Studio Connect, students can gain experience using emerging technologies, providing an opportunity to increase problem solving and critical thinking skills. It gives them a place outside of class to gather together with their fellow students to prepare for assignments and explore new trends. They will have the opportunity to enter the workforce highlighting their skills and experience.

“The library staff is excited to offer this new service for CSCC students,” said Sarah Shippy Copeland, director of Library Services. “Studio Connect underscores the library's role as a host for collaboration and creativity, in addition to research and study. The availability of iPads and Nexus tablets will allow students to experiment with integrating mobile technologies into education at Cleveland State and beyond.”

Studio Connect consists of 30 iPads, which come preloaded with an assortment of educational apps to help students succeed. Android tablets and laptop computers are also available. Other highlights include a Promethean Board, which allows students to simulate a classroom presentation environment, an Apple TV system, which students can use to project their iPads onto a large screen monitor and two iMac computers that are loaded with powerful software such as Adobe Creative Suite, iWork, iMovie, GarageBand and Camtasia. Studio Connect provides an interactive environment where students can work together on cutting-edge projects, such as web design, video creation or putting together an e-portfolio.

The community open house will consist of demonstrations of all of the technologies available to students in the new space.
