Betty Jean Cureton Rogers, 84, of Trenton, Ga., passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013.

A lifelong resident of Trenton, she was an active member of Trenton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, including serving as a district officer.

She was a graduate of Chattanooga’s Central High School and McKenzie Business School. She worked for the Selective Service Board and served as Superior Court clerk of Dade County from 1973-84. She was active in several clubs and organizations in the Dade County community, including ABWA, AARP, Dade County Days, Dade County Chamber of Commerce and the American Cancer Society. She was the co-founder of the first Girl Scout Troop in Dade County. Because of her service to the community, she was recognized as the ABWA SanLoVal Chapter Woman of the Year for 1981, the 1984 Lookout Mountain Bar Association Liberty Bell recipient, the 1998 Founder’s Day honoree by Dade County Days, and the Dade County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 1999.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Milton Rogers; parents, William and Carrie Cureton; and brothers, Kenneth and Dudley Cureton.

She is survived by her four children: son, Sam Rogers and Malinda of Birmingham, Ala.; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Steve Morris, of Trenton; son and daughter-in-law, Robin and Darlene Rogers of Rising Fawn, Ga.; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Beth and Terry Botts of Cleveland; eight grandchildren: Leah Rogers; Alan, Kevin, and Carrie Morris; Molly and Jay Rogers; Amber and Allison Botts; great-grandson, Ryan Morris; sister-in-law, Betty Cureton; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, in the chapel with the Rev. Reece Fauscett officiating.

Interment will follow in Payne Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 4 to 8 this evening and noon until service time Tuesday at Ryan Funeral Home in Trenton.
