Barbara Jean “B. J.” Powers, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend departed this life peacefully at home, Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, with family at her side after a very short illness.

She was the daughter of the late Edna Blunkall and James Grover Henderson. Her infant daughter, Tiffany Powers also preceded her in death.

She was well-known in the community as Pokey Dot the Clown and the “costume lady”. She was a multi-talented and hardworking woman who was always on the go. Her other love in life was being “Grammy”. There wasn’t a day that went by that she wasn’t involved with her grandchildren’s school projects, extra activities and day to day support and love. She brought joy and laughter to so many people through the years and will be missed immensely by all. She was a member of the Calhoun United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Pat B. Powers Jr.; her daughters: Melissa and Patricia Powers; granddaughters: Ashley Cross and Emillie Burchett.

The Remembrance of Life service will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. from the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Mary Parson officiating.

A graveside service and interment will follow at 1:30 from the U. S. National Cemetery in Chattanooga with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
