The Bradley County Planning Commission approved a recommendation to the Bradley County Commission to allow multifamily dwellings, apartments and townhouses on land zoned Rural Commercial (C-1).
Currently only single-family homes and duplexes are permitted in a Rural Commercial zone.
The County Commission will review the changes at its Dec. 2 meeting.
"I recommended approval of the amendment to keep from hindering higher-density residential growth in mixed commercial areas. It made no sense to me to allow single family and duplexes in Commercial Zones and to restrict apartments to the R-2 Residential Zone," county planner Bently Thomas said.
The Planning Commission also approved three plats during the meeting. The final plat for the second phase of the Habitat for Humanity subdivision was approved. A final plat for Penny Hill subdivision was also approved.
A preliminary platt for Farmingdale Trail subdivision was approved. The developer has two years to come back with a final plat, according to Thomas.
Plats give the design and details of individual properties with in the subdivisions.
