Barbara Jean “B.J.” Powers, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, departed this life peacefully at home, Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013, with family at her side after a very short illness.
She was the daughter of the late Edna Blunkall and James Grover Henderson. Her infant daughter, Tiffany Powers, also preceded her in death.
She was well-known in the community as Pokey Dot the Clown and the “costume lady.” She was a multitalented and hardworking woman who was always on the go.
Her other love in life was being “Grammy.” There wasn’t a day that went by that she wasn’t involved with her grandchildren’s school projects, extra activities and day-to-day support and love. She brought joy and laughter to so many people through the years, and will be missed immensely by all. She was a member of Calhoun United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Pat B. Powers Jr.; her daughters: Melissa and Patricia Powers; and granddaughters: Ashley Cross and Emillie Burchett.
The Remembrance of Life service will be held Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. from the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Mary Parson officiating.
A graveside service and interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. from Chattanooga National Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
