Barbara Ann Purkey, 77, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, in a Chattanooga hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Clarence and Lelah Wilson Walls. She was also preceded in death by her sons: Gregg Allen Purkey and Michael Jay Purkey; and a brother, Clarence Walls Jr.
She was a member of Peerless Road Church of God of Prophecy. She graduated with honors from The New Life Ministry in Cleveland, and she was a Bible teacher and counselor.
She loved to go to yard sales, make crafts, crochet and make Christmas wreaths, but more than anything she was a mom and grandma.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Purkey; daughters: Robin Bassett of Chesapeaka, Va., Kelley Keeling and her husband, Charles, of Cleveland, and Heather Wells and her husband, Danny, of Fairfield, Ohio; son, Shawn Purkey and his wife, Tammy, of Venise, Fla.; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Jan Purkey; sister, Connie Walls of Findlay, Ohio; brothers: Lee Walls of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Joey Walls of Point Pleasant W. Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life service was held Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at the North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Austin Fritz officiating.
Interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
