High school rodeo is this weekend at Tri-state

Hundreds of high schoolers will be in Cleveland this weekend to participate in the 2013 High School Rodeo State-Qualifier at Tri-State Exhibition Center. The even will be held Saturday and Sunday.

Most of the participants are from the Southeast, coming from Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

They all have hopes of earning enough points to qualify for the National High School Finals. Girls will compete in barrel racing, pole bending, breakaway roping, team roping and goat tying. Guys will compete in bareback riding, saddle bronc, team roping, tiedown calf roping, steer wrestling and bull riding.

Contestants in the events range from grades 9-12, and can participate whether they are attend public or private high schools, or are home-schooled.

Admission to the High School Rodeo is $10 for a weekend armband.

The high school rodeo starts at 8 a.m. both days, and continues until all events are completed, usually around 6 p.m.
