He was born on Jan. 1, 1930, and was the son of the late Sallie Mae Graham Geren and Leonard Geren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty Jean Geren; sister, Neva June Geren, brothers: Dean, Gean and D.L. Geren; and his nephew, Tom Geren.
He was a retired teamster from Cleveland Express and was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War. He enjoyed golf and working in his yard.
Survivors include his daughter, Darlene Akins and her husband, Don; his son, Eddie Geren and his wife, Elaine; five granddaughters: Juliah Humphreys and her husband, Mitch, Jenni Akins, Emily Goins and her husband, Coby, Crystle Wright and her husband, David, and Shelley Geren; his four great-grandchildren: Taylor Brooks, Mack Suits, Chelsey Humphreys, Carlie Ann Wright and Luke Goins; his great-great-grandson, Micah Brooks; sister, Juliah Ann Collins and her husband, Joe; brother, Tressley Geren and his wife, Winona; sisters-in-law: Betty J. Geren of Cleveland, Nancy Snead and Juanita Brand, of Alabama; special nephews, Joe Joe Collins and Corey Collins; and several other nieces and nephews.
The Remembrance of Life service will be held at 7 this evening, Nov. 22, 2013, from the North Ocoee Chapel of Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Rev. Terry Geren officiating.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, from the Candies Creek Church Cemetery with Coby Goins, Mitch Humphreys, Mack Suits, Joe Joe Collins, Cory Collins and David Wright serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 this evening before the funeral at the funeral home.
