Bears cruise to win over Ooltewah

Notching its 16th victory in the first 17 dual meets, Bradley Central’s wrestling Bears didn’t give the visiting Owls of Ooltewah a chance to roost Tuesday night at Jim Smiddy Arena, winning 11 of 14 matches.

En route to a 57-12 District 8 victory, the sixth-ranked Bears complied a half dozen pins, one technical fall, a major decision, two decisions and a accepted a forfeit. The Bears gave up only two decisions and forfeited one match.

The Bears jumped to a 16-0 advantage after the first three matches with a 10-0 major decision from Spencer Daily (160), and pins by Nathan Adams (170) and Brett Brown (182). The Owls came back to score the next 12 points, receiving a forfeit at 220 pounds and by winning a pair of three-point decisions at 195 and heavyweight to make it 16-12.

From there, the Bears roared back to win the final eight matches, scoring the next 41 points to end the night.

Freshman Ryan McElhaney got the final run rolling with a 68-second pin at 106 and after state champion Toribio Navarro received a forfeit at 113, Know Fuller posted an 18-3 technical fall at 120.

Hunter Parker (126), Taylor Kazy (132) and Stephen Scott (138) strung together three straight pins.

Chris Price (145) and Caleb Adkins (152) finished off the Black-and-Gold victory with decision wins.

The Bears will next be in action with 29 other teams at the Bradley Invitational Friday and Saturday, when more than 400 wrestlers from Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama arrive for the two-day tournament.
